Indication: Tetrabenazine is prescribed for the treatment of chorea associated with Huntington's disease.
Class: It belongs to the class of medications known as vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) inhibitors.
Mechanism of Action: Tetrabenazine works by selectively inhibiting VMAT2, which leads to decreased uptake of monoamines into synaptic vesicles and depletion of monoamine neurotransmitters, such as dopamine, thereby reducing chorea symptoms.
Formulation: Available in tablet form for oral administration.
